Chair's Foreword My name is Sajad Barkat and I am the chairperson of this organisation. Initially, I would like to thank all who have contributed their time and effort to establish this project, particularly the support of Hyndburn community members. Time limits for action in discrimination cases
Race and equality Where to go? Everyone has a right to be treated fairly, where discrimination is eliminated and human rights are upholded. The Race Relations Act 1976, as amended by Race Relations (amendment) Act 2000, further looked into in 2010 and resulting in Equality Act 2010 makes it unlawful to discriminate on grounds of race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic origin. Everyone including the local authorities are bound by these legislations. Racial Equality Hyndburn ensures that these human rights are adhered to and provides services to all who come to us for help. Please check our "about us" page for what we do and if you are still usnsure then feel free to get in touch with us on
Message From our Equality & Cohesion Manager It is a pleasure working with the diverse people of Hyndburn and other areas as I have learnt alot from others in the process of helping them. Although my work has been on a limited basis, the positive outcomes in various cases that I have dealt with have not only provided me with more confidence that Racial Equality Hyndburn is making a difference but also gives me satisfaction to know that people from different groups can live in harmony and work together towards building a positive united future outlook. We are all equal and my personal aim is to achieve understanding between diverse communities, who live for the greater good. I feel that Hyndburn can become a place where people can inspire noble living, effect social change, ensure human rights and increase community cohesion by re-learning community action, especially when we are all culminating in the current economic crisis. This is where the community solidarity plays a vital part towards a future vision, where all are equal and social/moral good of others is at the top of the agenda.
